Kenosha Casino Deal still in the air
January 23, 2015The deadline for the Menominee Tribe to open a new casino in Kenosha is fast approaching on February 19th but Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says it is not over and talks are ongoing to work out a deal.
A WISN-TV report said that the state and Menominee Tribe were close to reaching an agreement on the terms for the new gambling compound. When asked about it Gov. Walker said, “That’s just one more step in terms of what may or may not happen”.
The biggest hurdle of course remains the $100 million in potential lost revenue that as of now the state will have to refund to the Menominee Tribe if the Kenosha casino project goes forward.
The proposed project would be an $800 million Hard Rock hotel resort which would stand on the former grounds of the Dairyland Greyhound Track. While talks are ongoing there is not less than 4 weeks to work out some massive dents in the agreement prior to the February 19th deadline.
We will find out soon enough so stay tuned for an update.
