Romania opens up to online gaming
February 12, 2015In 2014 many changes have taken place in different regions in regards to online gaming, with many governments realizing the financial benefits of allowing their citizens to participate and play in online casinos and bet on sports. By allowing online gambling a country can make billions in tax profits from the online casino operators and help themselves by pushing money into their economy.
In the case of Romania, online gaming endeavors have generated many different point of views and whether it should be allowed or not. It was regulated in 2010 but the lack of structure in the monitoring of operations have prevented the online gaming industry to grow in this region.
This has not changed with the election of Klaus Iohannis in 2014. He oversaw that the countries National Office for Gambling immediately moves towards completely regulating online gambling thought an emergency ordinance. With the new laws, online casino operators are now allowed to get temporary gaming licenses from 3 to 6 months to try and push the industry into the mainstream of their population.
While companies such as Bet365 have succeeded in operating in Romania thus far we are sure to see plenty of other big time online casino operators entering the market to get their slice of the action from a country with great potential!
